Child Welfare Policy within York Union of Golf Clubs

The York Union of Golf Clubs has a Safeguarding Children Policy (Jun 2019) and is fully committed to ensuring that golf provides a safe environment in which children can learn about the sport without fear of abuse in its various forms.

It is essential that you should feel safe and enjoy your sport. If there is something worrying you or you need someone to talk to then please speak to our Welfare Officer :

The Union has a clear child protection policy and procedures taking into account our circumstances and the recommendations and guidance as detailed in the ‘Guidelines for Safeguarding Children in Golf' document approved by the Children In Golf Strategy Group, to promote good practice to all in dealing with children.

The Union has a statutory responsibility under the provisions of the Children Act 1989 which provides that anyone who is involved in the care of children should do what is reasonable in the circumstances for the purpose of safeguarding or promoting the child's welfare.

In these circumstances a child is classified as a person under 18 years of age.

Our Policy Statement

The York Union of Golf Clubs acknowledges its duty of care to safeguard the welfare of all children involved in golf within Union activities. All children have the right to protection, and have their particular needs taken into account. The Union will therefore endeavour to ensure the safety and protection of all children involved with the Union through the Child Protection guidelines adopted by the Executive Committee of the Union. It is the responsibility of all adults within the Union to assist the Executive Committee in this endeavour.

Our Policy Aims
