Two fantastic scores of 63 in the 4BBB medal competition saw Heworth convincingly claim the trophy at Sandburn Hall
Hats off to Heworth after brilliant net 63's from both pairs (Jim Batt / Ian Dodsworth and Dave Fogg / Mark Atkinson). 18 handicapper Ian Dodsworth did the bulk of the scoring with 8 pars as the pair only dropped one shot against the course. Mark Atkinson and Dave Fogg made 3 net eagles to help them to their 10 under score. Home pair Darrin Frew and Gary Greeenwood were the only to get near the Heworth score - also making 3 net eagles in their 9 under 64. An honourable mention to Forest of Galtres - who had 3 pairs in the top 7 but couldn't quite match the spectacular scoring of Heworth. Sad to note that current holders Forest Park, despite their number of entries, lacked quality on the day, with 9 of their 11 pairs finishing in the bottom 10 - however huge thanks for their ongoing support of the York Union events - today almost wouldn't have been viable without them !
Thanks to all at Sandburn Hall for their support and particularly Steve Wood (President) for his support (yet again !)

Charles Wright used the disappointment of the his 9 hole play off defeat last year to fuel his ambition to win the Junior Championship by 4 clear shots yesterday at Malton & Norton
Two excellent rounds of 76 and 74 saw Charles Wright (Malton & Norton) claim the Junior Championship by 4 shots from Tadcaster's Max Hollinghurst (78,76) with Cameron Ferguson (Heworth) coming 3rd just one shot further back (and definitely rueing the 2 x 9's he took !). Some good golf on display in the afternoon from reigning champion Charlie Foster who came back with the low round of the day (72) after a disappointing 89 in the morning meant he was always likely to relinquish his title.
The Seward Trophy was combined with the Junior Champs for the first time (under the excellent guidance of new Junior organiser Colin Riddell) - Jake Jennison of Heworth claimed the title with an excellent net 68, from Matthew Wilkinson (Tadcaster net 70) and Fred Turnbull (York net 71).
Huge thanks to Malton & Norton for their hosting and support on the day - not entirely straightforward as it turned out - and apologies to the competitors for the admin issues delaying the results and vouchers...

Glencor Golf Holidays backs York Union
Glencor Golf Holidays has announced a new 12-month sponsorship deal with the York Union of Golf Clubs, building on links with the union that go back over 25 years.
The York-based golf holiday provider was keen to be part of the local golf scene, especially as founder Glen Renton has had connections with the local union since 1999.
He said: “I have been a member of various clubs in the York Union since around 1999. Starting as a Junior Member at Forest of Galtres, with spells at Easingwold and now at York Golf Club.
“It’s great to put back into the grassroots and help support the York Union. They do great work for Junior Golf, which is a cause we are passionate about.
“The Union is run by an unpaid team of volunteers and rely on sponsorship to help provide the great events all golfers in York have come to know and enjoy.”
During his time, Glen played in numerous York Union events such as the Cross Trophies, Team Championships and the York Union Open Championship.
“Sadly, no noticeable successes to speak of,” he said.
The York Union of Golf Clubs was formed in 1931, bringing together the York, Fulford, Heworth and Hob Moor golf clubs.
Steve Wood, President of York Union, said “We are absolutely to delighted to be partnering with Glencor Golf Holidays. It is great to have the support of a local business, especially one that is already involved with Golf. We are extremely grateful for their support and look forward to a productive partnership !”
Glen added: “Supporting the York Union of Golf Clubs is our way of giving something back to the game and the community that’s been such a big part of our journey. We want to help more people get involved, improve their game, and just enjoy the sport.”
