Carol Simpson wins YU Ladies Amateur Championships at Forest Park by 3 shots
Carol Simpson from Malton & Norton won a clear victory in the York Union Ladies Amateur Championship at Forest Park - despite losing a ball on the first ! She recovered well from an opening 7, recording 7 consecutive pars at one stage, to beat Emma Kilvington (York) by 3 shots with Wendy Jackson (Malton & Norton) finishing 3rd a further 3 shots back.
Emily Attwood (Sandburn Hall) claimed the Silver trophy for best net score in division 1 from Pat Hague (M&N) on countback. Both players scored a net 73 - but Pat had a stunning net 32 - unfortunately it was on the Front 9 - so Emily claims the trophy with some very consistent golf.
The Bronze trophy was also decided on countback - with Natalie Taylor from Forest Park just pipping Julie Smith from Pike Hills by one shot on countback after they both finished on impressive net 70's.
There was an excellent atmosphere on the terrace after the round with John Masiak (York Union President) and Steve Wood (York Union Vice President) joining to watch the groups come down the 18th.
There were also plenty of compliments on the course - with many thanks to Forest Park for hosting the day, Rich Rogerson for taking on Starter Duties and to all the competitors for their participation !
