Foster pips Wright in thrilling Junior championship
The Oaks hosted the Junior Championships over 36 holes and provided a stern test for the Junior golfers of the York Union. A 3 way tie after round 1 between Tom Ellerker (Sandburn Hall), Luke Winterburn (Forest Park) and Charlie Foster (Fulford) already indicated a tight contest with all 3 players shooting 78. An excellent 76 saw Finn Cook in the running - but he fell just short by a couple of shots - finishing tied 3rd with Luke Winterburn with 157 total. Charles Wright (Oaks) had left himself alot to do by shooting 83 in the morning - but then shot the low round of the day - with 5 birdies in a fantastic score of 72 to earn a play off against the consistent Charlie Foster (78,77). The play off was 1st and 18th - which was tied so onto sudden death down the 18th - which they also tied 6 times before Charlie Foster eventually came through at the the 7th time of asking ! The play off was a huge credit to both players as they played some great golf under pressure with people walking round and watching them. Huge thanks to Ed Nutt and the team at the Oaks for their support and leadership on the day and well played to all the Juniors who took part.
