Steve Wood
President of The York Union of Golf Clubs 2025

The York Union of Golf Clubs has a small number of affiliated clubs compared to some other
Unions but it certainly plays a huge part in promoting competitive golf across the whole
Region.
My club, Sandburn Hall Golf Club was asked to take up the presidency for the 2025 year and
I am delighted to have been asked to take on this role. It’s particularly relevant for Sandburn
Hall Golf Club as this year is also the twentieth anniversary for the club. That’s not the
longevity of some clubs but I am proud to represent both Club and Union this year.
By arranging a large number of summer and winter golf tournaments we are able to use
some of the funds raised to support both a junior and senior league team. These teams play
against other Unions and without the support of the members of all the York clubs, we
would not be able to take part in these matches.
I have already been asked by members of some clubs how much it costs to join the Union.
The answer is simple but often overlooked. All members of the twelve clubs, whether five
day or seven day members at their own clubs are members of the York Union. Simply go on
to this website to see the competitions and enter the ones you want to participate in.
I want to also add my heartfelt thanks to all the people involve in the Union. We have
organisers of events, a small management team of volunteer officials and each club is
invited to send representatives to the regular Executive committee meetings. The true
bedrock however is the people who take part in the golf, either individually or in teams.
For my part this year, I would be delighted to have feedback, suggestions on improvements
or even criticism so we can continue to improve.

Steve Wood
